For decades now, Gasthof Dolomiten has been a place where hospitality is lived from the heart. Whether holiday guest or villager, hiker or enthusiastic hunter: everyone comes together here.
Gasthof Dolomiten has been welcoming guests for their holidays in the mountains of South Tyrol for four generations now. Over the years, a farm developed into a small inn. The location in the small village of Ferrara in the heart of Braies is ideal as a meeting place for the village community. But hikers, mountaineers and especially the hunters of the hunting ground Braies also meet here to review their day in the mountains, or simply to have a coffee or a glass of wine in our cosy guest room or on the terrace.
The landlord has been behind the bar since he was a child. He loves talking to his guests and entertaining them. In his free time, he prefers to pursue his great passion, hunting. Which means that he also likes to contribute to enriching the menu with the occasional game speciality.
Edi’s wife is the boss of the house. She is in the kitchen from early in the morning to give the guests a nice start to the day with a lovingly prepared breakfast and a hearty “good morning”. The flowers and the garden are her territory. She learned the secrets of cooking from her mother-in-law. Helga’s Knödel dumplings and game dishes, they say, are on everyone’s lips.
Edi and Helga’s son has been involved in the family business from an early age. He advises the guests at the table, makes recommendations for the right wine and is and is also happy for a little “chat”. In keeping with the family tradition, Christian is also a passionate hunter.
Originally used as a farm for centuries, a few guest rooms were added during the interwar period. The number of mountaineers, summer visitors and holidaymakers increased over the years. It was above all Edi’s mother who, after her arrival in Braies, continued to expand the area of room rentals with loving work and a lot of diligence, but always remained modest. It was only at a later point in time that the restaurant was added to the guest rooms.
